Learning Intention: We are learning to find and use important information.
Success Criteria:
- I have answered the questions about my planet using a variety of credible sources.
- I have recorded information in my own words.
- I have noted the sources of my information.
Tuning In:
Watch the video of Mr Heard demonstrating how to use a search engine, navigate sites and record information using the questions we created last week.
Activity:
Today and tomorrow you will be researching the planet you have chosen for your informative writing using the questions you created last week.
Below is a template to record your research - you can print this off or recreate it in your Writers Notebook.
In the left hand column you will list your first question. Using the website links below or any non-fiction information books you have at home begin to search for information that will help you to answer your questions. If you take time now to find lots of information you will have more opportunity for success when we begin writing our informative pieces.
After you find information don’t forget to note the source of the information in the right hand column.
There is an example of how to fill out each of the columns below.
Learning Intention: We are learning to spell words using the digraph /se/ making the ‘z’ sound as in cheese.
Success Criteria:
I have completed the Tuesday column of my spelling sheet.
I have practised my spelling words using fancy writing.
Activity:
Complete the Tuesday column of your spelling grid. Then complete the following activity using all of your list words.
Fancy Writing
Say the word aloud.
Count the syllables in the word.
Count the sounds in the word.
Practise writing your list words using fancy writing. This could include bubble writing, calligraphy, using the word in an illustration - it is up to you to get as creative as you would like.
Learning Intention: We are learning about capacity.
Success Criteria: I can compare items capacity by using the greater than and less than symbol.
Tuning In: Watch the video to learn about the great than and less than symbol.
Activity: Today you are going to explore capacity by comparing items that are more than > and less than < a litre. If you have a litre bottle in your fridge of juice/milk/any liquid use this as your reference for one litre.
Using the more than symbol > and less than symbol < record measurements in real life that are more than or less than a litre. You may use words or pictures to show your understanding.
For example:
- A fish tank’s capacity is > than a litre.
- A spoonful of water if < than a litre.
- A bathtub full of water is > than a litre.
- A babies bottle when full is < than a litre.
