Informative Writing – Banning the Boring
We are going to look at another short video from David Attenborough. When watching the video I want you to think of all the things that will be happening behind the scenes that are not included into the final product. Here is the video:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03dl5nm
Activity 1:
After watching the video:
1. What are the things that were left out that they didn’t show you?
2. What do you think is happening behind the scenes?
3. Do you think a lot of planning was involved?
4. If so, what kind of things would they have to plan?
5. Why did they leave these things out?
6. Would you have watched it if they were included?
Analysing how a documentary is planned is a fantastic resource to help us think of the important things that we need to include into our information reports, as well as the things we can leave out for the reader.
Writers Workshop
We are now moving onto our Writer’s Workshop. You still have the freedom to write what you wish, but we still expect you to take pride in your work.
Here are a few things we expect you to follow while creating your writing piece:
Freedom to write what you wish
Taking pride in your work
Writing in a peaceful and quiet environment (you could work outside in the sunshine, listen to some music if it helps you think etc.)
Following the Seven Steps and the Writing Process
This is also a fantastic opportunity to upload your work and receive some conferencing notes from your teacher!
LI: We are learning to spell our selected words consistently
SC:
I can write my words carefully
I can set out my work neatly in my exercise book
Activity One
Write out 10 all of your spelling words again.
Activity Two
Your task is to create a word search that includes all of your spelling words!
You could use the squares in your math book to hand create this or you could use the following website to create a digital one to be printed off:
https://thewordsearch.com/maker/
Pass this onto a friend or family member to complete when they have some spare time.
Continue with your planned activities to complete your project by the end of next week.
