Independent / Shared Reading:
15 minutes reading your ‘Good Fit Book’.
Remember to add this reading to your Reading Log.
Learning Intention: We are learning to show our comprehension of a text by making predictions and visualisations.
Success Criteria:
- I can listen to the language used to describe a setting and make a picture in my mind.
- I can think about the events and characters in the story to make a prediction about what might happen next.
Introduction: Watch Mrs. Holmes model using the language in the text to visualise and make predictions.
Activity: The author uses great descriptive language to create a picture in our minds of the settings in the story.
Prediction 1. Before you read anything today, reflect on the past events until now and make a prediction about what might happen next. Remember to write I predict….
I predict that because…..
Prediction 2. At the end of Chapter 8 make a prediction about what you think might happen next. Remember when you make your prediction, explain why you think that will happen.
Visualisation 1. Listen for the key language that helps us to visualise and draw George walking home at the beginning of Chapter 7.
Visualisation 2. Listen for the key language that helps us to visualise and draw the astronaut at the end of Chapter 7.
Extension:
Get creative and make a scene from the book in a shoe box.
or
Create a role play of a scene from the book. Film yourself acting out the scene using an iPad (convince family members to join in).
or
Create a comic strip for chapters 7 and 8 with words and pictures that retell the events.
Learning Intention: We are learning to build our writing stamina.
Success Criteria: I have applied strategies for building on my writing stamina.
Tuning In: Revisit the seed pages from your Writer’s Notebook. Take some time to finish off or shape any seeds that you have not completed or would like to revisit and continue.
Click on the link to read an interview with Aaron Blabey (Author) about where he gets his ideas for writing.
You might even like to listen to him read one of his books at the bottom of the page.
Activity:
Today our goal is to write independently for 30 mins.
Find a space that is quiet and comfortable. Now that you have revisited some of the seeds from your Writer’s Notebook you should be feeling inspired and ready to write.
Take some time to plan your writing before you begin. Some things to consider are:
- Have you chosen a topic?
- What text type will you be writing?
- Is there a seed that you will be using for your writing today?
- Have you got a rough plan in mind?
- Are you going to continue a piece of writing you have already started?
When you are sure about the direction you are going to take with your writing today start the timer. Don’t forget to ‘Lock your eyes and ears in’ and ‘Write the whole time’!
Learning Intention: We are learning to spell words using the digraph /se/ making the ‘z’ sound as in cheese.
Success Criteria:
I have completed the Thursday column of my weekly spelling grid.
I have used 5 of my words in interesting sentences.

Tuning In: Practise the timetables that find most challenging at the moment by…
- creating a funny song
- dancing and rapping to it
- writing it out
- Creating arrays with materials found in nature
- Writing it out on the footpath in chalk
- Getting your brother/sister to quiz you on the ones you find the hardest!
Activity: Watch Mrs Marra’s video on how to calculate the volume of a 3D shape.
Today, you have five 3-Dimensional shapes that you need to find the volume of by using the L x W x H method. Rewatch the video if you get confused and refer to the picture as an example too.
Please record the equation that you used to find the volume of each shape in your Math book.

Reflection
As you begin the experience of learning together take note of how you feel inside. You might like to share these feelings with each other. This will help you to both understand and have compassion and empathy.
Remember to complete a specialist activity each day! Check out what's on offer by scrolling back to the top of the page, clicking on the 'more' button and selecting the drop down option beside the word 'specialists'.
From here you can choose which area you would like to focus on for the day. Aim to complete Art, Performing Arts, STEM, Indonesian, PE and Blue Earth each week.
