Remember to add this reading to your Reading Log.
Learning Intention: We are learning to develop our vocabulary by exploring synonyms and antonyms.
Success Criteria: I can use a synonym brainstorm to make my writing more descriptive.
Introduction: Watch Mrs.Holmes introduce the lesson.
Task One.
Today we are going to read a sentence and then try to enhance it by using a more exciting synonym.
Please read each sentence on the card.
Select a more exciting synonym to replace the highlighted word.
Write each sentence in your book.
Please complete at least 10 sentences of your choice.
Task Two.
Complete the synonym and antonym table either on the sheet or ruled in your literacy book.
Look at the words listed in the column on the left.
The antonym is a word with the opposite meaning.
Learning Intention: We are learning use interesting and engaging language in our writing.
Success Criteria: I have reread and made changes to my writing to use interesting and engaging language.
Tuning In: Watch the video of Mr Heard Introducing the writing lesson for today.
Activity: When we edit our writing our focus is on improving our writing so that the reader is engaged, entertained and our message is clear.
One really effective way of making sure that our audience is engaged in our writing is to use interesting and descriptive language to help them create a picture in their mind.
A strategy that we can use when we are editing our writing is to ‘cline’ words to make sure we are being really descriptive. If you haven’t already watched the introduction video please watch now to see how we can ‘cline’ words.
Task 1: Using one of the options below practise clining a word.
Remember, you want to order the words by the strength of their description. The least descriptive words should be at the bottom and they should get more descriptive as you move upwards.
Task 2: Choose one of the words from a writing draft that you have completed this week. Using the blank template below write your word at the bottom of the page. Your challenge is to think of synonyms for your word then order them from up the page so that your most descriptive word is at the top.
When you have completed each of the tasks please take a photograph and upload to Google Classroom for feedback.
This week we will be completing a spelling assessment task as part of our small group Google Meets.
Learning Intention: Today we are exploring fractions using playdough.
Success Criteria: I can use my playdough to explore halves, thirds and quarters.
Today we are going to be making a resource that you can use for our new Maths unit on Fractions!
We would love it if you could make some playdough (with the help of an adult)
Please be VERY careful and make sure you have adult supervision as some of the recipes involve hot water.
Here are two of the most basic recipes for playdough that don’t include too many ingredients. There are two from you to choose from, but you may have your own play-dough recipe you have made before that you would like to use instead!
Activity: Today, please watch the video on using playdough to explore fractions.
Have fun exploring fractions with your playdough.
Please experiment with the following fractions and draw what your playdough looks like when it is cut into halves, quarters and thirds. Please label each part of your playdough drawing with the correct mathematical symbol for half (1/2), third (1/3) and quarter (1/4).
Challenge: What fractions can you add together to make a whole? For example ½ + ½ = 1 (one whole) Record as many different ways as you can to make 1 (a whole).
Learning Intention: I am learning to take turns
Success Criteria:
I can listen attentively
I can wait until another person has finished speaking or doing something.
In this session we explore both Respect and Responsibility.
We are being respectful by listening attentively
We are being responsible waiting until our friend has finished speaking.
This week you will call a friend on the phone or on Zoom. This maybe a school friend, a cousin, family member or friend across the road.
While you are together you will complete an activity that encourages you to take turns and listen attentively.
Ask for parent permission before using a communication device such as a mobile phone, ipad or computer.
Take it in turns to write a line each until you have made a poem.
First create a list of some things that you both like. From this list decide the topic you will write you poem about.
Example
We both love Spring time
Miss Egerton: The birds soar high up in the sky
Mary: New plants grow they don't have to try.
Miss Egerton: The sun shines high and bright
Mary: The insects dance, move and fight
Miss Egerton: The wind blows new seeds to new places
Mary: The warm sun brings smiles to peoples faces.
We have taken turns in writing a sentence each.
You do not need to print the page out but rather simply write each sentence on your own piece of paper.
