L.I. I am learning to explore symbolism in texts
S.C. I can describe the symbolism of ‘colours’ in three different texts.
Task 1: 20 minutes of silent reading
Task 2: Watch the teacher video which explains our learning focus and how to be successful in today’s task.
Instructions:
In the Grade 6 Google Classroom there is a ‘Colours’ assignment. The assignment has 9 questions to answer. You will be responding to a poem, ‘Nothing Gold Can Stay’ by Robert Frost, and the lyrics of ‘Red’ by Taylor Swift. You will also be asked to reflect on colour as a symbol in The Giver. Write your answers into your literacy workbook, and upload a photo of your workbook answers to the Google Classroom Reading assignment for today.
Symbolism: physical objects or things that represent big ideas about life. The teacher video and the activity will explain more about symbolism in texts.
As you read The Giver, pay attention to some of these important symbols: Apple, River, Eyes, forest, rain, snowflake, sun, mountains or hills, road, bird, and the biblical name Jonah and Gabriel.
LI: We are learning to create a flip book story
SC: I will can be successful if I can create a creative and exciting flip book
Flip Book Friday
Today you will be creating your very own flip book!
Your task will include creating a short story using the flip book method. He is a fantastic video of what I mean:
Your story can be anything! It could be a basketball game with the last second shot going in the rim, it could be an alien invasion, it could even be the day in the life of yourself. The choices are endless!
Extension:
Now that you have created your flip book, you can now create a voiceover to the flip book! This can include you setting up your iPad so you don’t need to hold it while filming, them flipping the pages on your flip book. After you have taken the video, you can now create a voiceover of what is happening in the story!
Upload your work as we would love to see your creations!
