Chocolate Chip Cookies in a Jar

Modified from Very Best Baking

1 3/4 cups flour

3/4 tsp baking soda

3/4 tsp salt

1 1/2 cups chocolate chips (or so)

3/4 cups packed brown sugar

1/2 cup sugar

Combine flour, baking soda and salt in a bowl. Layer into quart jar, then add in rest of the ingredients, in order. I had trouble getting it all in without packing, so I ended up doing in parts - I did half the flour, packed it down, then put in rest and packed it down, then the last of the flour, again packing.

Preheat oven to 375. Beat 3/4 cup softened butter, 1 egg, 3/4 tsp vanilla in a large mixer until blended. Add cookie mix (and optional 1/2 cup chopped nut) and mix well, breaking up clumps. (I thought this would be really hard to do with the chips in it, but it worked fine). Drop by tablespoonful onto a baking sheet. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool for two minutes before moving to a cooling rack.

Makes 2 dozen cookies.
