Chocolate Donuts

Modified from Buns in My Oven

Doughnuts:

1 cup bread flour (really use bread flour....I normally use AP flour for everything, but bread flour really helps the texture here)

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup cocoa powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp vanilla

1 egg

6 tbsp. sour cream

1/4 cup milk

1/4 cup oil

Glaze: (I made this, but I honestly wasn't thrilled with it....I want it more like icing)

2 cups powdered sugar

6 tbsp. whole milk

1 tsp vanilla

Preheat to 375.

In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder and baking soda. In a small bowl, beat the vanilla, egg, sour cream, milk and oil. Stir wet and dry ingredients together until just combined.

Spoon into a greased donut pan. Bake for 8 minutes or until tops spring back. (This really only took 8 minutes!)

Let cool before glazing.

Glaze:

In a small sauce pan, over low heat, mix sugar, milk and vanilla until well combined. Remove from heat and dunk donuts into glaze, then place on wire rack to set. My issue with this glaze is that the donuts were always very sticky, it never really "set." As I said, I will use a different on in the future. I liked the doughnuts, but not the glaze.

Makes 10 donuts. (which is about what I got).
