Gingerbread Cake

Modified from Quick Cooking

1/2 cup butter-flavored shortening

1/2 cup sugar

1 cup molasses

3/4 cup water

1 egg

2 1/3 cups flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp ginger

1 tsp cinnamon

3/4 tsp salt

Cream shortening and sugar. Add molasses, water and egg. Combine the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and salt; add to creamed mixture and beat until combined. Put in baking pan (about 15 by 10 by 1).

Bake at 350 degrees for 18-22 minutes until until toothpick passes.

Can be served as cake, made into gingerbread men or be used in other recipes.
