I was recently taking a look at some old shape files of congressional districts(as you do). And I thought I would share with y'all the one I found most interesting NJ's 1962 Redistricting. The partisanship provided is the 2016 Presidential election whereby Clinton won 13 CDs
Here are the partisanship numbers and which party had control of each CD circa the 1962 election.
New Map for ET, the 2016 Presidential election by 1793-1801 congressional districts, Trump wins 11 to H. Clinton's 8. Considering that the utility of this map is not high, this is just an interesting datapoint.
Notably, this was the map under which James Madison was a representative, his district was the Trump district above the Charlotesville district.
I wanted to take a look at how some congressional districts have held up over the years, so I took a look at the 1980s Ohio CDs; the results of which were completely expected.
As seen here, Sherod Brown Was the best performing Democrat, and Trump the Best performing Republican, and notably there were no Clinton Trump Districts, and in fact Brown only lost one district that was held by a democrat from 1982 whereas he won four that were not held by Dems.
I'll Say, that looking at the historical house results, I was suprised that Dems did not hold the Mahoning District, considering it is the last one of the old WWC Ohio Districts still in Democratic hands, curtesy of Tim Ryan.
The 1990 NC congressional districts, infamous to many I wanted to see how they would vote and the results were striking.(counter clockwise/ left to right: 2014 Sen, 2016 Prez, 2016 gov, 2016 AG).
As can be seen here. Most districts were carried by the GOP highlighting the geographic advantage pf the GOP. And in a reverse from when it was drawn(seen in the image below) only a minority of districts are favorable to Dems.
It should be noted that the 9th drawn to be an suburban GOP pack has become much more favorable to Dems highlighting the suburban shift. Being carried by all Democrats In the data sets I looked at
