The 2012 presidential election in NJ; because of Huricane Sandy, the Garden state became one of 6 states where the Incumbent President, Barack Obama, improved upon his 2008 showing.
In doing so, at a 17.7% margin, Obama secured the second largest margin of victory for a Dem Pres candidate since Lyndon Johnson in 1964 (1996 was slightly larger at 17.9%), and the highest percentage for a Dem presidential candidate since 1964
Obama's showing combined the old South Jersey / Turnpike adjacent Democratic base, with some emerging strength in NJ's suburban areas such as Somersett (though the county did swing against Obama because of Romney's monumental suburban appeal).
Adding on to that coalition were some general improvements because of Sandy and Obama's overal improvement with Latinos when compared to 2008.
The Sandy specific improvements can be seen in the non-suburban areas of NJ, but the latino improvements compounded on the sandy improvements, resulting in a notable increase in support in Passaic & Hudson counties than what would have been expected with simply the Sandy effects
