In one of ther many suprises in the 2021 Election, the near defeat of Dem "rising star" St. Sen. Vin Gopal was among the most unexpected of November Elections.
Luckily for Sen. Gopal, his personal strength allowed him to win this Ciattarelli +3.4% District by 3.7%, holding his Monmouth based Legislative district for the Democratic party in the State Senate.
However, as the final Caveat suggests, his assemblymates rere not as lucky, loosing by a combined 0.85%.
While the combined loss was due to holding closer to Murphy's numbers than Gopal's, Assemblywoman Downey's loss specifically due to a green party candidate costing her crucial votes in her reelection, causing her to lose by 0.27% to Kimberly Eulner
The loss of both Assembly seats combined with Gopal's win made this the only Legislative district to split results either whithin the Assembly, or between chambers. And is one of two Senate districts to have a diferent result than the Gubernatorial, the other being Bramnick's LD-21.
