The 1984 PA-11th Congressional Election, a contest between Paul Kanjorski and Robert Hudock resulted in a crushing victory for one of this seat's 1980 Dem Primary runer up, in the fifth Election where this seat sent a new person to congress.
Before Kanjorski won, this seat's incumbent was Mike Flood, who resigned in 1980, being replaced by Ray Musto in the succeeding special election, James Nelligan in the 1980 Reagan Revolution, and Frank Harrison in the 1982 Reagan midterms.
First term Rep Frank Harrison was then ousted by Kanjorski's in the primary, with the later's win here being a result of him claiming that Harrison was abroad on foreign trips too often, in the district too little, and was not effective in attending to the district's needs
In the general Kanjorski won for similar reasons—here, Kanjorski claimed that the office that his republican opponent was registered in was seldom used and that really he worked and lived in Fairfax VA. Moreover, the traditional democratic lean of the seat further definitely helped Kanjorski.
In any case, after he won, Kanjorski would represent the district centered in Luzzerne County until he lost to Lou Barletta in the 2010 republican wave.
