Whilst all the attention in the 1990 NJ Elections was focused on the shockingly Close result for Senate, the Backlash to Jim Florio's Tax bill & strong republican incumbents allowed the GOP to win the congressional Popular vote by nearly 4%.
They won the Congressional Popular vote despite leaving South Jersey Representative William J. Hughes (NJ-02) and Passaic representative Robert A. Roe (NJ-08) uncontested in the General Election
As a result of this Bill Bradley––despite coming 3% from losing at the hands of future Governor Christine Todd Whitman––was still the best performing Democrat in the state.
