The 2022 Maryland Comptroler primary, a Contest between Delegate Brooke Lierman and Businessman Tim Adams resulted in a crushing victory for Lierman in a friendly under the radar contest to replace the retiring Peter Franchot.
With this primary falling on Racial Lines as Adams was endorsed by multiple local black electeds in Baltemore and Prince George's county and Lierman endorsed my multiple—mostly white—heavy hitters such as Barbara Mikulski, Hoyer, & Raskin, Lierman was a comanding favorite for the nomination
Despite this, Adams' African American suport provided him a strong base in the regular Maryland Primary divisions, resulting in Adams getting a third of the vote
But, because of the fact Lierman had more institutional suport in an under the radar primary she was able to trounce the political novice adams by 32.5%, essentially winning the contest to become Maryland's comptroler due to the state's underlying partisan lean.
