The 2002 PNP Special Election for House District 4, the house vacancy caused by the resignation of Edison Misla Aldarondo resulted in the election of future PR House speaker and Resident Commissioner Jenniffer Gonzáles, the youngest woman ever elected to the PR House of Representatives.
A Founding Member of the Party, PNP House Minority Leader, and Former Speaker of the House for the 1997-2001 term; Edison Misla Aldarondo left under the cloud of continuing major corruption scandals for the PNP—in Aldarondo's case: Extorsion and Money Laundering
This left the field wide open, to which Gonzáles—a leader of the PNP's youth wing—took full advantage to win a clown car primary that contained a littany of lesser connected people.
The other two candidates of note here are: Perenial PNP Primary candidate Jose Lebrón Lamboy, who sought an at large House Seat Nomination in the 1999 PNP Primaries, and this seat again in the 2003 Primaties. And Victor Parés, who would win this seat in a 2012 PNP Special and then in the 2016 and 2020 General Elections.
In any case, Jenniffer won her election here thanks to strong support in the District's educated and Liberal areas, gaining support in this area due to her social liberalism and perception as a college educated woman.
