As things stand right now, Longtime Incumbent Senator Migdalia Padilla Alvelo, as well as PR Dems Member and incumbent Senator Carmelo Ríos are ahead for the PNP nomination in the Bayamón II Senate District.
This primary saw PNP Leader and Former Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz target to oust Padilla—who's been in the senate longer than Schatz and isn't part of his machine—with a senator who is part of said machine, Mabel Vélez
With Ríos safely renominated , this in turn this led to a close contest between Pierluisi Endorsed Padilla Alvelo and Jenniffer Endorsed Vélez Romero;
where—as of right now—because of Padilla's lead in the more educated section of the district in North Guaynabo and Bayamón as well as Cataño she leads Vélez Romero
By contrast, Vélez Romero won over Padilla in the comparaticelty less educated portions of the district—winning in Toa Alta, the south of Bayamón, and most of Toa Baja
Whichever of these two win will be the candidate that likely has to face a stiff challenge from At-Large MVC Representative Betito Marquez, which when combined with former PD Gubernatorial Candidate César Vazquez drawing votes away from the PNP
Jenniffer's 2020 & Primary Weakness in the Metro—especially in the north of Guaynabo—and Ríos' overall historic strength in the seat will provide a more challenging than normal task to win in this usually Safe PNP District.
