The 1984 Presidential Election in NJ, a contest between President Ronald Reagan and former Vice President Walter Mondale resulting in a crushing win for President Reagan, Resulting in the Largest win for a GOP Presidential Candidate in the state since Nixon's 24.8% win in 1972
The Incumbent's Popularity throughout the Campaign was too great for Mondale to succeed in upsetting him, despite the age issue weighing down Reagan, the president was able to successfully shake it off.
Reagan's victory was in the state was nearly complete and total, winning the White vote 65%-35%, the Male Vote 68%-32%, the Female vote 57%-43%, and the vote fo those making more than 40K a year 69%-31%.
By Contrast, those making less than 40K went for Mondale 55%-45%, The Black Vote went for Mondale 89%-11%, and the Hispanic Vote was split between the candidates 50%-50%.
To this effect, Mondale was basically redused to NJ's progressive Strongholds, such as Montclaire and Priceton and Minority Heavy Cities such as Trenton, Newark, Orange, Atlantic city, Camden, Pleasantville, Paterson, Jersey City, Englewood and Teaneck.
By Contrast, Reagan won everyhere else, Especially in the Wealthy North Jersey Suburbs. But Also, notibly, Reagan won a strong victory in the traditionally Democratic Hispanic/Italian communities in Northern Hudson County such as Union City, West New York and North Bergen.
In his 1984 Win, Ronald Reagan won 20/21 Counties to Mondale's 1/21, 13/14 Congressional Districts to Mondale's 1/14, and 32/40 State Legislative district to Mondale's 8/40 SLDs.
