In an exemplar of the political strength that Hudson County and it's political machines exercise over the state of New Jersey, in 1932 Incumbent President Herbert Hoover lost the Garden State to New York Governor Franklin Rosevelt thanks too his 46% (117,739 vote) loss in Hudson.
Without Hudson's votes Hoover would have won the State by 6.32% (or 86,751 votes)
The scale of Hudson's pull in 1932 becomes more clear when you look at the congressional map, as outside hudson, Roosevelt only carried 3 CDs (five including the 2 Hudson CDs) whereas Hoover carried 9 CDs.
