One of the 2020 Election's most disappointing result for Democrats came in what used to be one of the most consistently Blue states before the year 2000, West Virginia; with the Defeat of Treasurer John Perdue(D-WV).
2020 WV Treasurer's Race:
(R)Riley Moore: 425,745 (56.31%)
(D)John Perdue: 330,316 (43.69%)
Total Vote: 756,061(+84,477 from 2016)
This election signals the beginning of the end for West Virginia Democrats as they now reside in one of the reddest states in the nation.
This election saw Treasurer Perdue Attaining merely 7,702 less than his 2016 run, showcasing that if turnout is high in WV that democrats are unlikely to carry this state that once went to noted Liberal Michael Dukakis
John Perdue's 2016 Run(seen here) is likely the last time a democrat not named Joe Manchin carries West Virginia for a long time(barring something out of the blue occurring)
2016 WV Treasurer's Race:
(D)John Perdue: 338,018 (50.33%)
(R) Ann Urling: 293,671 (43.73%)
(L)Michael A. Young 39,865 (5.94%)
Total Vote: 671,584 votes
In 2016, Longtime Incumbent Treasurer John S. Purdue won his 6th and Final Term as West Virginia's State Treasurer, becoming the Last true* Non-Manchin Democrat to win statewide in West Virginia.
(*Jim Justice technically counts as-well, but he switched back to the GOP in 2017)
In his victory, Perdue carried 12/17 State Senate Districts as well as 40/67 State House Districts to Ann Urling's 5/17 Senate Districts and 27/67 House Districts
In 2020, against the backdrop of the highest turnout presidential Election in Modern history, Incumbent Democratic Treasurer John Perdue lost against Republican Scion of the Moore political Dynasty, and nephew of Incumbent Senator Shelley Moore Capito, WV State Delegate Riley Moore.
In his victory, Moore carried 12/17 State Senate Districts as well as 56/67 State House Districts to Perdue's 5/17 Senate Districts and 11/67 House Districts
