The Last non Presidential federal election win in North Carolina by a Democrat, Kay Hagan unseated Senator Elizabeth Dole in a comfortable 8.5% win.
Stronger in the Traditionally Democratic East, Senator Hagan outperformed Obama in the Tar Heel State by around 8%.
Powered by her strong showing in the rurals, and strong showing in Traditionally Republican Union County, Hagan was able to rout her opponent in the last time a Dem has held the Class II Senate seat
Initially favored to win, Dole's defeat can be atributed to a stellar campaign by Hagan, and a few Blunders on Dole's part, the most notable one being the Godless Ad where Dole attacked Hagan's faith, this ad would harm Hagan more than Dole.
All in all, at the conclusion a Hagan win being expected, and as mentioned before, this was the last time Dems have held this senate seat. And are unlikely to gain it unless there is a Republican Midterm the next time that this seat is up.
