The 2022 Michigan Gubernatorial Election, a contest between Incumbent Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Conservative Commentator Tudor Dixon resulted in a landslide win for Whitmer as she improved upon her 2018 performance.
Originally seen as being in danger due to how Biden Narrowly won the state in 2020, Whitmer cought a series of lucky breaks that allowed her to landslide Dixon,
The first was all serious Republican candidates being disqualified from the ballot, the second was Dixon—an underfunded candidate—getting the nomination with a ticket of crazy republicans, and third gaffing that she did not support abortion even in cases of rape or insest,
As a result, despite polling showing a close race throughout the campaign, and Dixon repeatedly attacking Whitmer's record as governor—blaming her for inflation—Whitmer won in a rout.
In this win, Whitmer expanded upon her 2018 Support in the West Michigan, the Cherry Coast, Anne Arbor, and Detroit Suburbs—while losing ground in the State's rural areas as well as Down River from Detroit and Dearborn/Hammtrack
And in a concerning sign for Democratic support in Dearborn/Hammtrack, she didn't just lose suport compared to her 2018 performance, but also compared to Joe Biden's 2020 performance—mostly due to socially conservative voters realining away from the Democratic party.
