The 2022 Democratic Primary in New York's 12th Congressional District, a seat that pitted Longtime Upper West Side Congressman Jerry Nadler against Longtime Upper East Side Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney in a clash of titans that would see one of these 1992 Freshman in retirement
That one that would enter retirement was Carolyn Maloney as 2018 & 2022 Challenger Suraj Patel would join the race, likely siphoning votes away from Representative Maloney and allowing one of Trump's antagonists—Nadler—win with a 55% majority of the vote
This begets the fact that as a contest that saw little policy disagreements the contest became a battle of the bases—with Maloney resorting to dirty tacticts such as accusing Nadler of stealing credit for her legislative achivements as well as questioning his health and fitness
In addition to the Marquee battle, Patel sought to beat both titans by making an argument that both had been in congress for too long and that it was time for someone new.
But as a man who challenged Maloney twice in the upper east side, as mentioned before , his voters came from Maloney's base, and as a consequence he came in a close third behind maloney, but distant behind the winner: Nadler.
Looking at the Nadler vs Other vote we see that he won primarilly because the district turned into a battle between the upper West and East Sides.
with Nadler not having a problem consolidating his base of support and eating into support in the East, he was able to beat the combination of all other candidates by 11%.
