Despite his narrow 1.89% Loss in the State, Incumbent President Herbert was able to carry the combined vote in both Bergen and Passaic counties by 2.77% over challenger, New York Governor Franklin Roosevelt.
His victory can be attributed to his showing in the north and west of both counties, carrying the upscale historically republican areas of said counties.
By Contrast, Franklin Roosevelt did better in the indusrial south of the counties, his margin in Paterson and Passaic city allowing him to carry Passaic county.
This was the case whilst his win in the south of Bergen county and most of the Hudson Rivers edge allowed him to keep that county - and the region - close enough to win statewide.
