In the first true PNP win of "Bipartidismo" The PNP were held to a 14-13 Majority in the PR Senate, with the race that solidified that Narrowness of the Majority being the PPD's - and more specifically Jesus Santa Aponte's - win in Humacao VII
With both PNP Candidates up on election night, after the manditory scrutinization of all the voting centers and audit of the count, Both PPD candidates came out on top, with Jesus Santa Aponte Besting the better performing PNP, Jose Estrada, by 52 votes and 0.01%
Because of this, in an attempt to gain the seat, the PNP Majority chose to investigate the election, voting to expell Jesus Santa unless the investigation resulted in his electoral victory (As a note, this vote was overturned in the Courts before the investigation concluded).
In the end, the investigation (Which cost $40,098.95) resulted in confirming that the former San Lorenzo Mayor, Jesus Santa Aponte, was duly elected to Humacao VII, a position he would hold untill he was defeated in the Roselló wave of 1992.
Key in Jesus Santa's Victory was the PPD's landslides in Humacao and Gurabo, the latter of Which functionally candceled out the PNP's net vote advantage in the city of Caguas, and the former Canceling out the resulting gain from both Las Piedras and the Fajardo-Río Grande Area, resulting in the PPD's Win.
