The 2022 Democratic primary for New York's 59th Senatorial District, a contest between DSA endorsee Kyrsten Gonzalez, and former Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley (cousin of congressman Joe Crowley) resulted in a decisive win for the socialist in one of the progressive seats in NYS
Early on there were some fears that Perennial Candidate, Podcaster Nomiki Konst would split the progressive vote, thereby costing the Puerto Rican-Colombian Gonzalez the seat.
However, nearing the eleventh hour she dropped out and endorsed Gonzales, allowing her (despite Crowley significantly outspending her) to win a seat in the NY State Senate).
Having garnered the support of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez the WFP and other left wing groups vs Crowley getting that of Mayor Eric Adams & moderate groups—Gonzalez used her win to proclaim her victory as a win for socialism
