The 2024 Passaic County Sheriff Democratic Primary, a contest between Former Sheriff Jerry Speziale and lifelong Republican/Passaic County Democratic Organization backed candidate Thomas Adamo resulted crushing win for the PCDO in their first primary without the organizational Ballot Line.
After Sheriff Richard Berdnik comitted Suicide, the race for Sheriff was wide open; with Speziale announcing a run inmediately but being passed over for Thomas Adamo by the PCDO.
Here, Speziale would not take this result standing down and before the Line was stayed, assembling a diverse ticket to fill out his column, ammasing a litany of Union Endorsements and a $500K warchest, he was seen as a formidable candidate against the Passaic Dems,
and without the line—even a favorite.
This was not Just because of the aformentioned factors, but rather because in recent years Passaic has been home to some close countywide contests because of catastrophic turnout in Paterson and Passaic City, casting doubt as to the PCDO's ability to turn out votes.
But the PCDO wouldn't take the race sitting down, here, the Passaic Dems slate campaigned with Popular Representative Bill Pascrell, enphasizing the endorsement of Mikie Sherrill, and Calling Spezialle "MAGA Jerry"
In essense the Passaic county Slate would amount an all out offensive to keep this seat—and the three County Commission seats up for Grabs—in their hands against the Speziale slate
And keep those seats they did, besting Speziale everywhere in the county except in Totowa, the African American & Hispanic Parts of Paterson, and among the Arab areas of Paterson and Clifton—Adamo won in a 14% landslide, surprising observers in the process.
