The 2022 Maryland Gubernatorial Dem Primary, funcionally the general Election contest African American celebrity author and former nonprofit executive Wes Moore brought together an African American dominant coalition to clinch the Democratic Nomination for Governor
In this win, he beat back former Secretary of Labor and DNC Chair Tom Perez as well as four term Auditor Peter Franchot.
In their losses, Perez won strongest in his native Montgomery county as well as neighbouring Frederick County, and Peter Franchot put together a coalition with Moderate to Conservative whites in the Maryland Panhandle and Delmarva Peninsula.
