The often Discussed defeat of Dem Senate President Steve Sweeney, a monumental achievement thought to be nearly imposible, with most handicappers rating this race as almost off the board.
Thank's to Sweeney's cash advantage and strong ties to the district he was able to over perform Murphy by 12%. loosing to Trucker Ed Dur by 3.4% where Murphy lost by 15.3%.
Alongside Sweeney's loss, came the no less shocking and no less impactfull of the loss of former football player Adam Taliaferro, and longtime NJ Assemblyman, and political operative John J. Burzichelli.
With both being known as legislative powers in Trenton, their defeat diminished South Jersey's standing in Trenton.
It should be noted that of the losers in this election, two are eyeing comebacks, Burzichelli to the senate seat that Sweeney lost, and Sweeney to the governorship that will be open come Murphy being termed out of office.
However, whether or not they are ultimately successful is yet to be seen
