The 2024 Gubernatorial Primary by Municipality
With the support of most every mayor on the island, despite some late breaking momentum for Juan Zaragoza as a result of a Good debate and organization in the educated urban areas leading to good press press is concentrated, Jesús Manuel Ortiz won the PPD Nomination for Governor
As this suggests, the main opposition to Jesús Manuel was in the educated areas of the San Juan Metro as well as Caguas Metro, while machine support everywhere in the island allowed the virtually unknown at-large senator to win the primary in a landslide
The 2024 PNP Primary for Resident Commissioner, a contest between Former Secretary of State under Wanda Vázquez, Captain Elmer Román faced off against At-Large Senator and former Ricardo Rosselló Chief of Staff William Villafañe, resulting in Villafañe's win
Here, Román—a virtual unknown—came within 7% of winning due to tying himself at the hip to gubernatorial Winner Jenniffer Gonzales, with the latter expending a large amount of political capital to help him become the PNP RC Nominee
Despite this, Román had no institutional support, and (unlike Jenniffer Gonzales) did not benefit from a vote to punish an incumbent.
As such, despite doing best in the areas that were Jenniffer's strongest in the most conservative parts of Puerto Rico (as well as his native Yauco, and the PNP's Rosachely machine in Gurabo) he was unable to beat Villafañe
Villafañe for his part, tied himself closely to Governor Pedro Pierluisi, benefiting from the support of the governor's campaign without the blame that comes from holding the top job at La Fortaleza.
Because of this, he was able to benefit with the governor's strength with educated voters while building upon that to over perform him by almost 20% and win the PNP nomination to be Resident commissioner
The 2024 PNP Governor Primary, a contest between the incumbent Governor Pedro Pierluisi and Resident Commissioner Jenniffer Gonzalez Colón resulted in a crushing defeat for the governor—not unlike the one he handed Wanda Vázquez almost four years prior.
Here, while Pierluisi massively outspent Jenniffer Gonzales, his sub 30% Approval caused by receiving blame for the island's long running energy and water problems, as well as other scandals caused by some of his appointees, ended up costing him reelection to the Gonzales
Here, she ran a fundamentally populist campaign, benefiting from other parties voting against Pierluisi in the PNP Primary, capitalizing on public sentiment and casting herself as "of the people" she ran on getting rid of LUMA, Condemning the privatization of the AEE...
... (Autoridad Energia Electrica) that occurred under Ricky Rosselló and was administered by Pierluisi (thereby as mentioned above giving him the blame for the Island's longstanding energy problems and tying functionally tying him to the hated LUMA energy (https://www.elvocero.com/gobierno/dura-cr-tica-contra-luma-de-parte-de-la-comisionada-residente-jenniffer-gonz-lez-col/article_14e365ea-5fc2-11ee-90fc-5f216549e75f.html)
Despite this, most PNP politicians supported Pierluisi, endorsing and campaigning for the governor relentlessly
and while this caused most of Pierluisi's Team to win in the contested primaries (Especially island wide where all his endorsed candidates won seats—except senate where he endorsed more candidates than where were seats)

Pierluisi's personal unpopularity and not aforementioned perceived elitism compared to Gonzalez' populism was too much to overcome, costing him reelection to governor in the PNP Primary
