By and Large, the At-Large Puerto Rican legislative elections were a failure for the PPD, only attaining 2 seatsof this variety in each chamber - same as the new MVC. However, the coalitions from the combined party vote from these elections, and the implications of some of the results showcase interesting things under the hood that are worth analyzing.
The At-Large senate elections are interesting as they rival the Gubernatorial election in terms of third party vote, where - while the two main third parties(PIP/MVC) underperformed thir Gubernatorial nominees, Independent Vargas Vidot helped to hold the PNP & PPD to similar Percentages to their gubernatorial nominees.
The PNP's coalitions does reflect the idiological diversities whithin the party, with the PNP underferforming Pierluisi in the San Juan Metro but overperforming him in the rural areas. Similarly, the PPD performed better than Delgado Altieri in the rurals but worse in the metro.
The extent that there was an overperformance in the rurals was massive, with both parties holding closer to the upper 30%s and 40%s where their collapse in the metros saw the parties not cracking 30% in Municipios such as San Juan, Caguas, and Ponce.
The At Large house elections are interesting as they are one of two elections - the other being the mayoral Generic ballot - where the PPD won the statewide total, reducing the PNPs to their strongest territories & San Juan.
Mainly drawn by the Strength of representative Hector Ferrer Jr (Ferrersito), the PPD's dominance of this vote exemplefies the total collapse that they had in San Juan this election.
With the Municipio that had elected Carmen Yulín Cruz not four years before, then Future governor Sila Maria Calderon in 1996, and the Legendary Doña Fela in the 40s & 50s looking to have it's PPD reduced to a third Party status in the comming Years.
