The 1968 Alaska Senate Election, a victory for Former Speaker of the House Mike Gravel this victory came over Mayor of Anchorage Elmer Rasmuson & incumbent Senator Ernest Gruening, who ran a write-in campaign after Gravel defeated him in a primary earlier that year.
Despite some fears that Gruenning Running would cost Dems the Seat, Gravel was able to win with 45% of the vote Despite Gruening's write-in campaign.
Gravel would hold this seat until 1981, when he was replaced by Frank Murkowski after he himself was primaried by Gruening's Grandson, Clark Gruening.
