The 2010 California Gubernatorial Election, a contest between Former Governor, Oakland Mayor, and AG Jerry Brown and former EBay CEO Meg Whitman resulted in a at the time somewhat comfortable—yet uninspiring—13% Comeback for the former Governor for a third non-consecutive term.
Having been 28 years since he left the Governorship, then AG Jerry Brown faced a $160 Million barrage from Whitman as she sought to succeed Arnold Schwarzenegger and hold the Governorship in Republican Hands.
The ads included old attacks from fellow Democrats against Brown, including one of former President Bill Clinton attacking Brown on having raised Taxes as Governor of California
But despite this, Whitman faced major issues on immigration in this heavilly Latino State—with her support among latinos plumiting after it came to light she fired her former nanny (an undocumented immigrant) because she entered politics.
This then combined with Whitman making the same Promises that Schwarzenegger campaigned and failed to deliver on, as well as Brown's popularity, to cause major political headaches for her; in the end causing her to lose to the once and newly elected governor Jerry Brown.
