The 2013 Jersey City Mayoral Election, a contest between Incumbent Mayor Jerramiah Healy, Ward E Councilman Steve Fulop, and Political newcomer Jeremiah Walker that resulted in Fulop—a longtime critic of the Hudson County Democratic Organization—ousting the incumbent Mayor.
Resulting from a series of scandals for the mayor, such as close associates being caught up in the corruption scandal operation big rig as well as incudents such as being photographed naked on his Front Porch, Heally was in danger to Fulop's challenge.
Fulop, for his part, in ousting a Heally Ally in 2005, holding on in 2009, and getting his own Board of Education slate elected in 2012; Fulop—with a base in the progressive and Gentrifying Ward E—had been amassing political power in the city for the past few years.
All this came to a head in the election, where Heally tried desperately to save himself, attaining the endorsements of then NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Newark Mayor Cory Booker, and even President Obama
But the scandals, the gentrification, and Fulop's political cunning won out—allowing the Progressive Ward E Councilman to topple Healy.
Here in his win Fulop won the Gentrifying Ward E he was councilman of by 57.6%, whereas Fulop's worst ward, the African American heavy ward F, Heally won by 0.8%—with heally doing best with the City's African American Community.
