The 1980 Presidential Election in New Jersey, A contest between Incumbent President Jimmy Carter and Former California Governor Ronald Reagan, resulted in a comanding Victory by Reagan as part of his national landslide.
Due to the suburban and ancestrally swing nature of the state, as well as local backlash Reagan Carried the state by 13.4% ~2% more than he won the nation
One of those local Backlashes was the Carter being blamed for the increasing Cuban Population in Northern Hudson County which swung hard to Ronald Reagan and nearly delivered the Governor the traditionally democratic county.
All of this came despite efforts of the state Democratic party, which controlled four senate seats, a 10-5 Advantage in the Congressional delegation, the Governorship and the State House,
In addition to the president himself who had Ted Kennedy come to the state to campaign for him in the state as the Massachusetts democrat had won it in the primary
However in the end, it wasn't enough, and Carter, who did not win New Jersey in 1976 against Gerald Ford, lost New Jersey again against Ronald Reagan
In terms of Congressional Districts, Reagan won 13/15 to Carter's 2/15, in terms of Legislative districts Reagan won 29/40 to Carter's 11/40, and in terms of counties Byrne won 18/21 to Carter's 3/21
