One of the Democrat's stinging defeats in 2010, 14 Term incumbent Rick Boucher was defeated by the stalwart Conservative VA House of Delegates Majority Leader Morgan Griffith.
In the campaign, Griffith won through a combination of attacking Boucher's spearheading of the 2009 Cap and Trade Bill, as well as tying the moderate Democrat to Barrack Obama, who after loosing this seat in 2008 only became more unpopular throughout his term.
However, in losing Boucher still fought back, highlighting his opposition to Obamacare, endorsement of the NRA, and calling Boucher a carpetbagger who didn't live in the district; but despite this campaign,Griffith's arguments won out, and in a historic 2010 republican landslide, Boucher was swept out of office by 5.1%.
