The theme this year is ‘This is My Place’, which is based around belonging and how we can feel a sense of belonging and help others feel like they belong.
We had lots of fun in this workshop. We learned about the Welsh story of Culhwch and Olwen and retold the story using Freeze Frames.
We are all curious about space and fascinated by aliens. This book has grabbed our interest and is hysterical. It is all about a girl, Saskia who is abducted by aliens, all because she produces a lot of gas from her bottom. The aliens want to use this gas to fuel their space ship! The author is Stephen Mangan.
The only information we were given was the title of the book. We then designed our front covers for our class novel.
We enjoyed reading the blurb and wrote down lots of questions that we would like answered.
We drew pictures and described in detail what we think the aliens in the story look like. We then asked Adobe image creator to recreate them. We loved comparing our images with AI, many of us edited our descriptions to try and improve the similarity of the images. We knew we had to be really precise for the computer to know what we wanted them to create. We had great fun describing our aliens. Every alien in this book is called Ronnie or Bonnie but both male and female aliens look just the same.
A Tarsia puzzle is a hands-on activity that requires students to cut out individual triangles and match them into pairs to create the final puzzle shape.
Some of the words that the children used to describe this activity were challenging, fun and enjoyable.
Our natural world is diverse and dynamic, influenced by processes and human actions.
What is light?
The children were able to identify light sources that were natural, artificial, and none of the above, and group them accordingly.
We explored the classroom, corridor and even Mr Curnell to find objects that were transparent, translucent and opaque.
We had lots of fun exploring shadows in class.
A question that we wanted to answer was, 'How can you change the size of the shadow? '
We found out that a shadow becomes bigger when the object moves closer to the light source or the light moves closer to the object. Also, the shadow becomes smaller when the object moves further from the light source.
We had a fantastic time making puppets for our shadow puppet show. We wrote playscripts and had lots of fun performing them!
While the sun was shining, we took advantage of the weather to draw around our shadow in the yard. We consolidated our prior learning to identify that shadows are made when the light source is blocked by an opaque object.
