We split into groups and used iPads and Chromebooks to research and learn about the growth mindset. We thought about what websites would give us age-appropriate information. We used BBC Bitesize and Kiddle to find interesting facts about the growth mindset to create our posters.
We learnt that we need to consider our mindset when approaching challenges and to use a growth mindset in our daily lives.
When asking questions about the topic, it was evident that the pupils wanted to learn about the human body.
We worked collaboratively across the two classes in order to research the organs of the body.
We split into 9 major organs including the:
Heart
Bladder
Brain
Kidneys
Stomach
Liver
Lungs
Skin
Pancreas
We used a range of age appropriate websites to research each organ (including some gross facts!) We will be using our research to help us create our collaborative websites about the body.
We watched "The Princess and the Dragon" to start learning about different relationships and that not all relationships are healthy...
On Friday 4th of October, Year 5 participated in a well-being day to be immersed in a range of activities to promote a positive mindset and positive mental health.
We started by looking at active sessions that can be completed inside if the weather isn't great. This included activities like Just Dance, Joe Wicks circuit workouts and Cosmic Kids Yoga!
One thing that we found quite tricky was being pushed outside of our comfort zones (especially when dancing!)
Our next set of activities focused on a range of movement outside without equipment.
We started by running, walking and jogging a few laps of the yard to raise our heart rate.
This was followed by a Yoga/Pilates stretching session in the sun! We were shocked by how relaxed this made us feel - especially being in the fresh air!
We ended our outdoor session by taking part in team races like hopping, jumping and the fast/slow race (this one was the trickiest)!
A lot of us commented that we hadn't experienced lots of these activities before and would like to continue doing them in the future.
Although being active is very important for our health and well-being, it is equally important to have time to relax too!
As we will be researching emotions in our topic, we thought that watching Inside Out 2 together would be the perfect start to gaining more of an insight into the emotions.
We loved bringing in our blankets and teddies and relaxing together - especially when we had a hot chocolate to watch the film! What a treat!
During our well-being day, we learnt lots of new ways to help promote a positive mindset and how to regulate our emotions using exercise and relaxing time!
Art is so important to our health and well being and we have been looking at the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. Have a look at the website to find out more about her..

"A galaxy" Alfie
"A mirror" Lily-Mae

"Inside a futuristic building" - William
What emotion does it make you feel?
"Joyful" - Theo
"Upbeat and funky" - Ioan
"Calm and relaxed" - Cohen
"Anxious" - Yosuf
"Tranquil" - Thea
We looked at a variety of Yayoi's art and first of all tried making some sketches of what we wanted to create.
We discussed and explored different types of relationships and considered what qualities make a healthy and unhealthy relationship.
We looked at how we can recognise these features and make decisions to help ourselves.
Then we reflected on how sometimes we fall out with those close to us but that doesn't always signify an unhealthy relationship. We are so greatful to be surrounded by such supportive and encouraging friends and family!
At the beginning of our topic, we had lots of questions about how we should be looking after ourselves to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In order to answer those questions; we worked in groups to research the elements of a healthy lifestyle. We love working in groups for these tasks and developing lots of skills such as listening, communicating, creativity and decision making.
Another element of Health and Wellbeing is considering personal hygiene. We researched and created a vlog to advise others on how to stay hygienic. This included brushing your teeth, showering regularly, using deodorant, washing clothes and washing your hands.
Take a look at some of the advice that we have given...
To evaluate our topic, we created a double page spread looking at the elements that we enjoyed the most!
It was great to reflect on all of the new things that we had learnt during this term.
We used Google Docs On Google Classroom to assess our topic. Look at the detailed assessment from Thea - well done Thea!
