Who Lives In A Castle Like This?
Pupil Voice
Following the knight's visit, we discussed what we already knew and what we wanted to learn further about castles. The children asked whether they could go see a castle's features. We discussed what we could see as we viewed the images of Welsh castles, and the children even tried to label key parts of the castles. We talked about how, despite their varied surroundings, castles all had the same purpose: keeping away invaders. We spoke about the key elements and developed suggestions for how we might research which castles are the best and why.
Expressive Arts
Castell Coch drawings inspired by Rhiannon Roberts
The children created their own drawings of Castell Coch inspired by Rhiannon Roberts.
Castell Coch drawings inspired by Rhiannon Roberts
The children enjoyed exploring their creative skills by using pencils and pastels to create their masterpieces.
Castle Drawings
The pupils drew their own castles, following instructions on YouTube. They followed the instructions well and created some brilliant castles.
Enterprise Dragons
For our Enterprise, pupils created their own dragons to sell. They built some incredible, unique dragons by following instructions. The parents loved them, and our Enterprise brought in £58.
Cardiff Castle
We planned a trip to Cardiff Castle after the children asked for a school trip to a castle. The keep, dungeons, banquet hall, and other areas of the castle were all explored by us.
Additionally, the children really enjoyed a workshop with a knight and a guided tour of the castle's rooms!
Castle Timeline
The children completed a castle timeline. They discussed the different features of castle over the years and talked about which castle would be the best and why.
Eisteddfod
The children participated in our Eisteddfod, taking part in handwriting and painting competitions as well as lots of fantastic singing.
Constructing Castles
The children were put into groups and instructed to construct a castle out of lego, bricks, or recycled materials. After labelling the castle, they had to present it to Mrs. Scott, who was amazed by what they had achieved.
