EFL Kids Cup 

During the spring term,  we were invited to compete in the EFL Kids cup. The boys involved performed extremely well and won 3 out of their 4 games . 


PC Leigh Newman visited year 6 to speak to the children about Cyber bullying, Cyber Safety & drugs. 

Gymnastics 

We watched the film made by Year 4 pupils, 'The Flamingo Who Didn't Want To Be Pink'. As a class we discussed the reasons why the flamingo did not want to be the same as everyone else. Pupils then came up with stories of their own to celebrate difference and diversity; created paintings, scenery and scripts; and recorded  their stories using iMovie.  Pupils worked in groups of 5 and took on different roles within the group: director, editor and producer.

Football 

The Year 6 girls' football team competed in the URDD Girls football tournament which was held in Garth Olwg. 


The Boys' football team competed in the football festival held up in Darran Park. 

There was lots of excellent football displayed in both tournaments. 


CWMLAI CROWNED AS CHAMPIONS

During the spring term all of the Cwmlai classes entered the Regional Sumdog Contest. 

Dosbarth Efydd were crowned as Overall winners beating the other 68 schools to the top spot. 

Y6 pupil, Imogen was crowned the overall winner beating 885 other children to the spot. 

We also had another 3 Cwmlai children who finished the contest in the top 10. 


We showed our support for the cancer charity, Velindre by wearing red on Friday 3rd February.  Thanks to the extremely generous donations from our families, we raised a grand total of £401.40 for this great cause. 

PC Steve came  in to talk to the children about drugs. 

PGL - Liddington  Pupils joined other feeder schools for Tonyrefail Community School for a transition residential. Children had the opportunity to mix with pupils from other schools in the Tonyrefail cluster and participate in different outdoor activities . Here are a flavour of the activities on display. 

Eisteddfod - All pupils in Year 6 learned a poem for our school eisteddfod, entitled, Siopa.  4 pupils then represented Cwmlai in the local Eisteddfod in LLantrisant. Ayva placed 1st and went through to the regional round. Da iawn Ayva. 

Curriculum for Wales  17.03.2023

Children from years 4 & 5 were selected to attend Tonyrefail community school to share their experiences about the new curriculum with school leaders and headteachers. 

Dwlu Darllen 

The year 6 children took part in the 'Dwlu Darllen'  competition and received the highly commended award.
