LNF/DCF - Spring 2024 Y2

Google Earth

We used Google Earth to find Wales. Once we had found Wales we then looked for our houses, our school, places we know e.g. local park, shops, and other places we have visited in Wales.

Recorders

This term we are learning how to play a recorder. As well as learning about the different musical terms, we are also learning how to count the beats and follow the music count of a song.

PE

Our focus this term in PE is gymnastics. As part of this we have looked at different balances, shapes and jumps. We talked about the word symmetrical and what it means. We then worked in pairs to create a sequence of moves that were symmetrical and performed them.

Letter Writing

Our genre this term is letter writing. We began by talking about the different ways that people communicate. Most of the children's ideas were technology based - by talking on the phone, texting, messages on Snapchat. After showing the children examples of letters we talked about the features of a letter.

We read the story Baby Brains. It was a story that really fascinated us - how could a baby be so smart?

We received a letter from Baby Brains and were very excited to practise our letter writing skills by writing back to him!

We then wrote a letter to a friend telling them something about ourselves. We edited our work and then typed the letters.

We took the letters to the post box and posted them to another person in our year group. We were so excited as most of us had never posted or received a letter before!

We were very excited to receive our letters over half term!

Welsh Instrument Posters

We worked together to create a poster about one of the traditional Welsh instruments we learned about in our Welsh music workshop. We had to use Google to research the instrument, and then we had to used Adobe Express to create a poster with our information. For our poster we had to -

Instruction writing

Our genre this term is instruction writing. We recapped on imperative verbs and had great fun creating 'The more, the more sentences' to enhance our instruction writing. We wrote instructions on 'How to make toast'.

Rainmakers

After a lot of dicussion on 'What does Wales Sound Like?' the children decided that in Wales we hear the sound of rain very often. They designed, created and wrote instructions on 'How to make a Rainmaker'.

Beth wyt ti'n hoffi?

Our artist this term is 'Jenny Lambert'. We explored her artwork and expressed our opinions in Welsh, using the sentence patterns 'Dw i'n hoffi .. and Dw i ddim yn hoffi...'. We participated in a secondary oracy task asking our peers to express their opinions. We used a tally chart to record the responses.

Dw i eisiau ...

We focused on the poem 'Dw i eisiau' by Tudar Dylan. We began by reading and understanding the poem before reciting the poem and creating our own poems.
