Four Purposes Autumn 2023
Becoming Ethically informed citizens of the world came naturally with this topic as we explored the different creation stories and asked the children "How Did It All Begin?"
Our trip to Cardiff Museum
As part of our topic, 'How Did It All Begin?' we visited The National Museum of Wales and explored the Evolution of Wales, finding fossils and dinosaur bones from millions of years ago. As part of the trip pupils attended a workshop where they became palaeontologists. The children thoroughly enjoyed their school trip to Cardiff Museum and are keen to visit with their families.
PE - Gymnastics
During the first half term, we have been focusing on Gymnastics in our PE lessons. We have explored:
Basic movement and different ways of travelling;
Basic shapes such as: straddle; tuck; pike; star; straight and turns,
Jumping techniques (discussing jumping and landing safely),
Managing risk,
Climbing and strength on different apparatus.
We have improved our basic movement skills and have also developed confidence whilst preparing, using and packing away apparatus. We can now move in imaginative and creative ways; whilst still developing the confidence and motivation to persevere when faced with physical challenges.
Anti-Bullying Week
As part of Anti-Bulling Week, the children discussed what bullying meant to them and what different types of bullying there are. In assembly they listened to the anti bullying alliance, who shared, we are stronger as a team if we stand up to bullying, so make some noise. In class we worked together to create a class poem about bullying.
Wear odd socks for Anti-Bullying!
We wore odd socks on the 13th of November to start off our anti-bullying week campaign.
Children in Need 2023!
We had such a fun day for Children in Need this year! We had a shop to buy bracelets and badges and sports activities on the MUGA. This year, we topped last years total and raised over £1000 as a school!!
Sports with Cardiff City and Team Wales
We were really fortunate to have the opportunity to have a workshop with the following athletes from Team Wales' Commonwealth Team:
Callum Williams - Team Wales Rugby
Gemma Frizelle - Team Wales Rhythmic Gymnastics
Ashleigh Barnikel - Team Wales Judo
During the workshop, we learnt about the history of the Commonwealth Games, looked at different commonwealth countries and had a question and answer session with the athletes. We then had the opportunity to take part in practical gymnastics, judo and rugby sessions. Diolch Team Wales!
Cardiff City
During the Autumn term, we participated in weekly Cardiff City football coaching. We learnt lots of new football and teamwork skills! We especially loved playing games of football in a mini tournament.
Pantomime 2023 - Cinderella at the Coliseum Theatre Aberdare
We thoroughly enjoyed travelling to The Coliseum Theatre in Aberdare to watch Cinderella this year! We loved watching the story of Cinderella, especially when we all got soaked when the cast used water pistols in the audience!
We loved singing and dancing along to the songs and spotting some of the schools pupils on stage!
Christmas Concert: The Grinch 2023
This year we performed The Grinch for our Christmas Concert! We all learnt lots of songs, lines and dances for the concert and performed for the whole school and our families. With amazing costumes and hair, the support of our teachers and families and working incredibly hard - our show was a huge success!
