Spring 2024

My Maps

The children researched the 7 modern and ancient wonders of the world as well as the 7 Wonders of Wales. There was lots of discussion about whether or not they agreed with the current Wonders of Wales and therefore decided to come up with their own Welsh Wonders. The children used 'My Maps' to present their work.

Coding - Scratch  (Maze Game)

The children were challenged with coding their own maze game in Scratch. The aim of the game was to navigate Mr Urdd through a maze and a series of obstacles, in order to get him to the Eisteddfod before the time ran out.

Coding - Scratch (Drawing Polygons)

We linked the work we had covered in our numeracy lessons to our coding lessons. The children created a program in Scratch that could be used to teach the younger children in the school all about Polygons.  Click on the green flags below and type a number 3 - 9 to learn more about Polygons.

Poetry - 'Fy Nghymru'

As part of the school Eisteddfod, the year 6 children were challenged to write a poem entitled 'Fy Nghymru' that encapsulates Wales. Each child signed the poem using a pseudonym and the poems were judged by Mrs Rees. The top three poems were announced during the Whole school Eisteddfod and the winning poets were awarded certificates and points for their respective houses. The winning author was crowned during the chairing of the Bard.

Dylan Williams - Fy Nghymru

Eisteddfod Profit / Loss

When researching the National Eisteddfod the children came across an article written by Wales Online which reported on the profit and losses recorded by the Eisteddfod over the years. This prompted the children to think about the cost implications of hosting such an event and what would happen if the event made a significant loss.

The children found the profit and loss figures and presented this information in a graph.

World Book Day

To celebrate World Book Day we decided to recreate the work of Mc Grammar and worked collaboratively to record a rap version of the well-known children's book, 'The Gruffalo'.

We recorded the audio over a backing track using the iPads and then added the images to the audio in iMovie. When complete, we uploaded the audio/ebooks to Seesaw and shared them with the younger children in the school.

To complete our World Book Day celebrations the children throughout the school were given the opportunity of creating a Character wooden spoon.
