AoLE - Expressive Arts
Spring 2024 Y2
What Does Wales Mean to Me?
We talked about where we live and what it means to us. We wrote down our ideas and answers to the question 'what does Wales mean to me?' We then talked to each other about our answers and discussed what Wales means to us and why. The common theme - family and home!
Welsh Music Workshop
To start off our topic we particpated in a fantastic workshop where we learnt about traditional Welsh instruments. Huw showed us a Pibgorn, a Welsh harp and a Penny Whistle. He also showed and taught us how to clog dance!
Jenny Lambert
This term we have researched and explored the artwork of Jenny Lambert. We discussed her work and experimented with oil pastels to create our own artwork.
What do welsh instruments sound like?
We researched traditional welsh instruments and how they sound. We used a thesaurus to identify adjectives to describe the sounds.
Welsh Musicians
We worked in groups to research welsh musicians such as Katherine Jenkins, Aled Jones and Catrin Finch. We created presentations using Google Slides and presented them to our peers.
Welsh Folk Dancing
We loved participating in Welsh Folk Dancing. Dosbarth Melyn focused on 'Jac y Do' and Dosbarth Pinc focused on 'Cylch Cymru'. Both classes performed the dances in our school Eisteddfod.
Traditional instruments in the United Kingdom.
We have identified many traditional welsh instruments and thought it would be interesting to compare and contrast traditional instruments across the United Kingdom. We located Wales, Scotland, England and Northern Ireland on a map og the UK. We worked in partners to research instruments and enjoyed finding out facts about them and what they sound like.
What Does Wales Sound Like?
We investigated instruments and the different sound they make. In groups we composed and performed a piece of music, which we felt described the sound
Rainmakers
After a lot of discussion we felt that as it rained a lot in Wales, we should design, create and write instructions for our own Welsh Rainmakers to reflect the sound of the rain.
ABC Opera
We explored the history of 'Opera'. We found out information about Opera's in Wales and Italy, which we were able to compare and contrast. We designed our own Opera characters and used Chatter Pix to create video's of them.
