(Rec Summer)

One of the pupils kindly brought in some Tadpoles to realease into or school pond.  They let them go and went to see them regularly to watch them grow.  The pupils learnt about the life cycle of tadpoles.

Fruit Tasting

Following on from the story of Handa's Surprise the pupils enjoyed tasting some of the fruits from the story.

Handa lived in Africa.  Mrs Roberts had been to Africa with her friend Dewi.  This is Dewi

We loved Dewi visiting us.  He told us lots of interesting facts about Uganda and showed us lots of different artefacts. Thank you Dewi

Dewi also told us about the flooding of the River Manafwa where many houses were destroyed by a landslide.  We decided to try and build our own mud houses, thinking about the natural materials we could use to reinforce the mud.

We also thought about the drought conditions in Africa and looked at different ways of collecting water.

Thank you Dewi for our fruit from Africa

We also learned the names of the fruit in Welsh.  We changed our role play into Cwmlai's Fruit Salad shop and practised asking for our fruit in Welsh.

Dewi also sent us another surprise!

What do you think it was?

We didn't know what they were! Noah thought they were slugs. Roux thought they were centipedes!

After 3 weeks it was time to add them to the butterfly net for them to hatch!

Lastly it was time to let them go!  Goodbye!

Did you know a caterpillar is a minibeast?  We set off to look for more minibeasts in our nature area!

We made our own snail collages in the style of Henri Matisse

We changed our Role Play area to a Minibeast Bug Hotel and had lots of fun searching for minibeasts

Ellis built his own Bug Hotel out of connecting blocks

Dewi also gave us packets of vegetable seeds to grow.

We looked after our plants and watered them every day. They started to grow until they were ready to be picked!

We were very proud of our vegetables and enjoyed eating them.

To celebrate the end of our Reception Year, we decided to hold an Ugly Bug Ball and invite our parents to come and see our show.  We also invited Mrs Rees.

We made tickets to sell.  We had to find 5p to buy a ticket!
