PUPIL VOICE:

At the beginning of the topic, the question 'Who's going to Qatar?' was put to the class.  David Beckham's 'Qatar stopover' was also played to 'hook' the children and engage them with the new topic.

The children were given time to discuss and record any questions they may have on a shared Jamboard.  The children then carried out their own independent research to find out some of the answers to the questions.

The children were set the task of researching the countries that were competing in the 2022 Qatar World Cup and finding out the capital city of each. The children then had to locate the different countries on a world map and calculate how far each team had to travel to get to Qatar.

The children were then required to round each distance to the nearest 100 miles. This consolidated the rounding work that the children had completed in their maths lessons.

The children were tasked with using clues to sort a variety of religious artefacts in the correct religion.

The children were then set the challenge of becoming an expert in a particular religion and teaching the rest of the class all about that religion.

During our literacy lessons, the children researched the positives and negatives of hosting the football world cup in Qatar.  The children were quick to pick up on and highlight a number of human rights issues. The children then used their research to create their own video Blogs using FlipGrid.
