We are the Criw Cymraeg of 2023-2024!
Rydyn'n ni'n Criw Cymraeg 2023-2024!
In June 2023 we recieved the Gwobr Aur Siarter Iaith Cymraeg Campus award! We are very proud of our Welsh in Cwmlai! We are hoping to continue our success this year and ensure that our journey continues.
We began our first Senedd meeting by discussing ways in which we felt that Welsh in Cwmlai could be improved. We identified that pupils needed to use more welsh on the playground. We discussed how we could encourage the children to play welsh games or use incidental welsh during playtimes and lunchtimes. During our next Senedd session Mrs Scobie taught us a few welsh games that we could lead on the yard and encourage our friends to play.
Last Year our Criw Cymraeg participated in 'Chwarare yn Gymraeg' with the URDD, which taught them lots of welsh games that could be played with their friends on the playground. Mrs Scobie used her knowledge of Chwarae yn Gymraeg along with the resources and taught us the games too! We had great fun and we are looking forward to leading the games on the playground. Mae'n llawer o hwyl!
Every week in Welsh assembly we have a Patrwn yr Wythnos to practise throughout the week. Our teachers listen for children who use the sentence speak pattern in class and around the school to receive the Siaradwr yr Wythnos! We decided that we would love to create videos to share on Dojo showing our Patrwn yr Wythnos so that parents and family members can also take part in learning the sentence patterns.
Lilo our URDD community worker came into school and held an assembly to tell us all about the URDD and Llangrannog. We even met Mr URDD and practised asking and answering questions with him.
We planned our school eisteddod 'Eisteddfod Cwmlai'. Every year group form Nursery to Year 6 took pare. We held a variety of competitions including recitals, art competions, handwriting competitions and poetry competitions. It was a great success!
We held auditions for the URDD Eisteddfod. We had so many entries, everyone was amazing! Mrs Scobie and Mrs Barnett judged the auditions in order to select a few children from every year group to register for the competition. We had great success! Three children went through to the regionals and Jesse even made it all the way to the final in Maldwyn!
We planned 'Cwmlai Jambori' to celebrate Dydd Seren a Sbarc. Years 1 - 6 celebrated in the school hall. Mr Evans played the piano for us and we had a brilliant time singing welsh songs!
