Genre: Diary Writing
After reading the start of our class text the children began to think about what it would have been like to be an Evacuee back in WW2. The children took on the role of David from the book to keep a diary of his thoughts and feelings as he left home and headed off to the countryside to live with his new family.
CAM: Edit and improve a piece of writing.
During this lesson, the children focussed on editing and improving a piece of writing by adding carefully chosen adjectives, nouns, verbs and adverbs. When the children were satisfied that they had improved their writing they then recorded themselves reading their writing using Seesaw. Click below to hear some of our fabulous storytellers.
Year 6 became familiar with the text and quickly became gripped through exploration of characterisation, plot and empathy.
From the book the pupils were inspired to think about the feelings of evacuees from the story, using their skills of inference, deduction and empathy.
Evacuees were created with a name, age and personality. These were painted using watercolours
Blackout Poetry
Year 6 analysed a piece of descriptive writing called 'The Blitz, not so brave after all'. In pairs, they circled the words and phrases they found to be most poignant and descriptive. They added some art to make the words stand out.
Sunsets and lights were created
Skylines and silhouettes were added
Spitfires and bombs were shown
Fire and smoke were included
Peace doves were created with quotes from motivational leaders whose focus was peace..
Helpwr Heddiw Loop Cards
The children used their knowledge of the Welsh language to create a set of loop cards that could be used during our daily Helpwr Heddiw sessions. We even created a set of cards that included Persian.
All About France..... We used Seesaw to create an interactive information page about France. We used the audio record tool to add a voiceover to the annotations.
The children used the green screen and photo editing software to superimpose themselves amongst the famous French Landmarks.
Dosbarth Efydd researched The Blitz, and then presented some top tips on surviving The Blitz, using Google Draw.
NATO
Whilst researching NATO, the children came across the 'number of active military data'. We input this data into Google Sheets and used the chart function to present the information in various ways. We applied our numeracy skills to round the figures and to write the numbers in words. We also learnt to use the 'filter' and 'sort' tools.
Dosbarth Efydd researched data on deaths from World War 2. They displayed their data in a chosen way.
Year 6 researched Rationing and Ration books. They created their own and tried to make a shopping list of essential food items.
Coding: Scratch Firework Display
We used Scratch to code our own firework display. Click on the Green Flag to be mesmerised by our dispalys.
Remembrance Day Posters
We used Adobe Express to create a Remembrance Day poster.
Anti-Bullying Week Graphic
What to do in the event of an Air Raid in WW2....
We used i movie and Seesaw to create an infomation video instructing the British of what they should do in the event of an air raid.
