The European Day of Languages theme for 2025 is "Languages open hearts and minds". This theme highlights how learning languages fosters connection, inspires new ideas, and broadens understanding of different cultures and opportunities. It emphasises the emotional and cognitive benefits of language learning, promoting empathy and respect for diverse ways of life.
Our class was assigned the country of Denmark. We researched the country and presented our findings using Google Slides or Google Draw. Then we learned some Danish words and phrases. We watched Bluey in Danish to listen to the language. It sounded really funny to us but we enjoyed hearing a new language. Damir could hear some similarities to his home language, Lithuanian.
Our class novel is The Hodgeheg, we have loved reading it together. The author is Dick King Smith, - a great author who loves to write animal adventure stories. The Hodgeheg is all about a hedgehog, called Max, and his family. They want to cross the busy road to the park opposite to eat the many juicy treats they can find there. We created posters around The Green Cross Code to help Max and his family cross the road safely. It was also a great reminder for ourselves! You can look at some of them below:

To try to improve our descriptive writing, we tried to use quality vocabulary, lots of different adjectives and similes to compare. We were shown different images of two completely different landscapes and had to describe them in the most detail. we then copied and pasted our descriptions into Adobe image generator to create the image we had described. We then had great fun comparing our image to the original. We also enjoyed selecting the closest AI image to the original. Whose would you choose?
Before we measured our leaves we practised drawing
Nothing was safe in the nature area today. We took a variety of measuring instruments outside and measured so many different things in centimetres and metres. Again we made estimations first, each time trying to improve the accuracy of our estimates. Mrs Scott even taught us how to measure the height of a tree! This was great fun!! Some of us are going to try this at home!!!
Our natural world is diverse and dynamic, influenced by processes and human actions.
We worked in group to research different landscapes in Wales. oNe group became an expert on Mountains, another on coastal regions, a third group on forest and woodlands, whilst a fourth group looked at key features of valleys. We looked at the different types of animals, trees and plants that could be found growing there and learned about key words like habitat and biodiversity. We really enjoyed researching and presenting our facts to others. We learned so much from each other too.
We were asked to locate key landmarks on a map of Wales. Some of us found this challenging so compared it to a physical map of Wales to help us. To reinforce the location of the landmarks further we also located them on My Maps in Google. Then compared our online versions with our class based maps.
We then used co-ordinates to give specific reference to some key landmarks, like Colwyn Bay and the Brecon Beacons on our maps.
Many of us asked if we could do more work using maps. So our teacher taught us how to use an atlas. We loved finding different places on a map of the United Kingdom, a map of Europe and then finding countries on a map of the world.
Miss Jones sent us on a woodland nature hunt around school. We had so much fun finding the different items on our scavenger list. We wanted to have a go at creating our own for our friends to complete. We are busy making coastal scavenger hunts to carry out over half term with our families.

We have loved exploring different types of jumps; balancing using different body points and patches; linking with different ways of travelling, to create sequences on the different apparatus. We have learned how to control our bodies and to extend our limbs for effect. We performed our sequences for each other and evaluated our performances, making suggestions on how to improve them. we then had the opportunity to try to improve and develop our sequences.

We observed lots of different artwork created using natural materials found in his surroundings. We then explored our own nature area and created our own art work inspired by Andy.
