Our class book - "The Mab" - Eleven stories from the Mabinogi edited by Matt Brown and Eloise Williams
We had a rather gruesome start to the introduction of Legends by reading the first of the eleven stories in the Mab called "Rhiannon, Pwll and the Hideous Claw". We used our inference skills to draw what we thought "The Claw" would look like.
From reading and understanding the legend of "Branwen" we created our own story maps to help us recall the story.
We worked in groups to discuss the two stories of the legend of Branwen and compared the similarities and the differences. Most of us agreed that we preferred the story taken from "The Mab" as it contained a lot more detail and information which made a more interesting story.
As a group we worked together to solve a variety of Maths problems all relating to the legend of Branwen.
We created slides on Google Slides to help us in our learning of "Yn y dref."
We have been using "sizzling" vocabulary to describe a variety of settings in Wales.
Following on from describing a setting, we described a character also using "sizzling language".
In groups we used the internet and some books to research various Welsh women from 1800's to the very early 1900's. These women were -
Kate Roberts
Betsi Cadwaladr
Amy Dillwyn
Frances Hoggan
Sarah Jayne Rees
We used transitions, added images, embedded links and so much more!
For the Eisteddfod, we were given the task of writing a poem called "What Wales Means to Me".
We used Google Slides to insert a simple graph to show the number of women working in metal or chemical factories from the beginning of the First World War in 1914, to the end in 1918.
For the next step in our writing journey, we studied problems and resolutions. One legend we looked as was "The Afanc".
After problems and resolutions, we finally started planning our legend using a Story Mountain. We wanted to keep it as simple as possible so we could really focus on the features of a legend to make our legend the best it could possibly be!
The last part of our epic writing journey, before actually writing the legend, was to create Alan Peat sentences with "sizzling language".
Finally the day had come to write our legend with a female lead. Two of the class had Head Teacher Awards for their legend and both are proudly displayed in our classroom. WE ARE SO PROUD!
Following on from creating a simple graph, we were given the task of creating a graph using information from an info graph, a key and a chart of or choice, to show the differing roles of Women in WW2. We certainly rose to the challenge!
After looking at the Suffragettes, we wanted to create a new, modernised logo. We deigned one by hand at first in our books, then we did a digital version on the IPAD using the sketchbook app. We kept the traditional Suffragette colours in our logos but took a modern approach with the design.
We created a modern Welsh woman using artificial intelligence. We put in a detailed description of what we wanted our woman to look like.
We created a completely different woman. Not only in how they looked, but aspects of their personalities.
We have used a variety of ways to be "Creative Cariads" in our assessment of this topic and one of the assessments was to create a Recipe for a Modern Welsh Woman.
