To celebrate European Language Day, dosbarth brown focused their learning on Montenegro. The children explored its culture, geography and language before collaboratively creating an engaging information video to educate others about the country
Meanwhile, Dosbarth Efydd researched the country of Austria. The children worked collaboratively to research different aspects of the country, the landscape and the language. They produced videos to share their findings with the rest of the class.
The class researched foods from Austria and then tasted and evaluated.
Dosbarth Efydd enjoyed Shwmae Su'mae day and worked hard to write and perform spoken conversations in Welsh.

Black History Month
To celebrate Black History Month Year 6 researched and remembered events and important black people in history who have contributed to the culture , economy and intelligence of the world in which they live and have lived.
We had a focus on the speeches written and the difference that was made in a woeld which wasn't always welcoming and all inclusive. The children researched and presented their findings.
The pupils begun by finding out about black people who wrote speeches to try to influence the people of the world. Speeches were then written and performed. Among the black heroes chosen were Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King.
Year 6 researched a variety of black heroes and then worked in groups to create informative posters.
After completing the posters, each group presented them and answered questions from the class. These presentations were evaluated. Thw groups grew in confidence and the development of their oracy skills was evident.

Our class texts this term have been Cool! By Michael Morpurgo. We focused on characterisation and the development of the skills of inference and deduction and also empathy, particularly with the main character, Robbie Ainsley.
The pupils became used to using every clue in the story to predict what was going to happen next. We have focused on using both pictorial and literary clues.
Year 6 also studied Escape From Pompeii By Christina Ballit. This text helped the pupils understand the events in Pompeii in AD 79. This text supported our learning in Topic work about Volcanoes and other changes in our Earth.
Year 6 created a Figure Me Out page where questions were devised for a factual answer. They were encouraged to devise challenging questions using their developing understanding of Maths.
Our natural world is diverse and dynamic, influenced by processes and human actions.
We watched clips about our planet and the importance of sustainability.
The class then created their own areas of interest and gave their influence to the topic.
Dosbarth Efydd began by labelling the Continents of the World and then using Google Earth to measure distance of a Country in each of the Continents of the World.
Year 6 then went on to focus on Wales and our locality. The class fitted the Counties of Wales together in a Jigsaw activity.
We discussed dynamics , both natural and man-made and then made mind maps.
We compared the climate in Tonyrefail with that of Florida and displayed our findings in Climate graphs using ICT and hand drawn ones.
A re enactment of the atrocious events in AD 79 in Pompeii. Year 6 watched this clip to gain a sense of what actually happened and the time span of events.
Dosbarth Efydd watched the clip anfd focused particularly on the sounds at each point in the day on 24th August AD 79. These happenings were annotated on a timeline.
After researching volcanoes and how they occur, Year 6 decided to design and make volcanoes in groups. The groups worked collaboratively, communicated well and overcame difficulties as a team.
The most exciting part was watching the chemical reaction when setting off our volcanoes.
Year 6 investigated ways of looking after our world and being careful with the resources we use. The work of Greta Thunberg was researched and posters were made.
We researched the anatomy of a volcano and labelled the different parts using the Seesaw App. We then used the voice recording function to describe each part in detail.
We combined our music and coding skills to compose our own songs in Music Lab. Click on the links below to listen to some of the music that we made.
We investigated the constituent parts of the Earth, found out what they were called and labelled them and did some further research in pairs.
We went on to discuss the climate. Our investigations from the climate took us on to The Water Cycle.
Alongside our learning on Black history Month we decided to sketch our heroes with a focus on lines and shading.
At the start of the term Dosbarth Efydd discussed what made a 'strong' class. We focused on personal attributes and resilience. We then displayed our class rules in the form of art work. Here are the results.
Year 6 then went on to explore what makes a good friend. They worked with a person of their choice and created posters showing their personal attributes and those of a friend and what made their relationship work.
